Hello there,

Lots of ways to support turtle conservation efforts this month.  Learn about an Earthwatch trip to Baja where you can volunteer with black turtle research.  Read along as experts visit the Gulf oil spill and volunteer in El Salvador.  You can also help get government funding for wildlife affected by the spill and help support our work and buy beautiful artwork from artist Gloria Clifford.

Black Turtle Monitoring with Earthwatch

Join Earthwatch Institute for a week-long expedition to Laguna San Ignacio to study black turtles (a sub-population of green turtles.  Volunteers on this trip will help capture turtles, tag and track them, and help create sonar maps to chart their movements.  The trip is Nov 25 - Dec 1 and costs $2,550 per person (of which $1,565 goes towards conservation and local communities).  More information here.

Field updates from the Gulf Spill and El Salvador

If you haven't read our blog lately, you've missed updates from the Gulf oil spill by our co-founder Dr. Wallace J. Nichols and by Josh Baugh, an intern that SEE Turtles is supporting in El Salvador.  Read along with their adventures on the SEE Turtles blog.   You can also get updates and see new pictures on Facebook, Twitter, and Flickr.

Support Wildlife Rehabilitation Centers

Wildlife rehabilitation centers arountd the Gulf of Mexico have taken on an extraordinary burden since the oil spill.  Caring for the hundreds of turtles, dolphins, birds, and other animals takes a lot of resources at a time when these facilities are already cash-strapped.  The Wildlife Conservation Society is asking representatives in Congress to help fund the effort.  Write your representative here.

Take the Green Travel Survey

Our friends at CMIGreen are asking travelers to participate in the Green Traveler Study.  Ten luck winners will win either a $50 credit to Amazon.com or a $50 donation to the charity of your choice.  Your answers are confidential and will help us learn about the needs of travelers.

Art for the Turtles

Watercolor artist Gloria Clifford has loved the sea her entire life and frequent snorkeling trips in Florida have inspired her art.  Watching the Gulf oil spill, she has decided to support SEE Turtles through her art.  She will be generously donating 25% of the profits for four turtle prints (including the one at right) to our work around the world.  These prints range from $45 - $58 plus shipping and make great gifts for any occasion.  See the prints and order here.

Feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.
